The eldest daughter of an old money Southern family, Felicia Brazell was never happy as a debutante. Getting shut of it at eighteen when she fell in love and married Dwight Callahan, a blue-collar Marine that could offer her nothing, Felicia left her home in Atlanta and became a Navy wife.
The rash decision ended up being her best as she lived a perfect life flawed only by those nights she spent in worry when Dwight was called to serve his tour at sea. After ten years, she lost him on the Atlantic when an engine room explosion took his life. At the same time, she heard from her family for the first time since leaving home when her aunt called her back to Georgia.
At eternal odds with her older brother, Eugenia Brazell doted on Felicia and called her first when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. In exchange for Felicia's steadfast presence at her side when she died, Eugenia left her niece everything. The estate, including liquid assets and property, was enough to return Felicia to polite Georgia society.
Instead, Felicia took the money and moved to Michigan in order to be closer to her in laws, whom she adored. Donating a sizable sum of her inheritance to local charitable organizations, after being brought into contact with Detroit Social Services she was moved to volunteer her help and licensed herself as a foster care provider for the state.
Over the next ten years, Felicia took in the worst that the bureaucratic system had to offer and led her wayward children to homes of their own.
